Bridge Cottage, Dunwich (Sleeps 6)

In a wonderful rural setting with views of the sea and just a couple of minutes walk from the beach, Bridge Cottage (sleeping 6) is a traditional Suffolk gamekeeper's cottage, providing cosy and well-equipped accommodation. There are three good sized bedrooms on the first floor, all with fantastic views over the surrounding heaths and forest or the sea. There is a straight staircase with hand rails on both sides leading down to the hall and from there into the sitting room with open fire and the kitchen / dining room. The bathroom is on the ground floor, off the kitchen.

On the woodland edge of the fascinating Suffolk coastal village of Dunwich, Bridge Cottage is a great place for birdwatchers; there is bird hide just yards from the cottage. There are woodpeckers, bullfinch, nightingale, kestrel and marsh harrier overhead and numerous country walks from the doorstep, whilst the garden is populated by ancient apple trees, rabbits and visiting deer.

Once one of the most important towns on the east coast, Dunwich has, over the centuries, lost most of its churches, houses and its port to the sea - it’s said that the church bells can still be heard ringing under the sea! Now Dunwich is made up of a village street with excellent pub - The Ship - and museum on the village’s rich history. The beach is shingle with sand at low tide. RSPB Minsmere and Dunwich Heath (National Trust) are both just a short walk south along the coastal path. Follow the coastal path north and you will soon reach Walberswick (known by many as Chelsea on Sea for the many actors, directors, writers and painters who enjoy second homes in the village) and beyond it - over the bridge or using the ferry - Southwold.

Sleeps 6 - 2 doubles, 1 twin.

"Thank you we had a wonderful time.... lots of lovely family meals and walks."
